The cabrei that I have been making for almost twenty years are the result of careful research on the territory with a project aimed at highlighting the peculiar characteristics (landscape and/or architectural) of the specific area, according to a model that freely draws to the eighteenth-century tradition of cabrei which had great development especially in Tuscany. The graphic depiction in some cases follows the classical stylized representation of the territory, thus placing the accent on the history of a place. In others it is more realistic, always having the goal to put in evidence the cultural value of the place itself.
In a cabreo, the harmonious ensemble of a view from the sky and some main landscapes allows an articulated and profound reading of the territory, with the technical aspect of the map that blends with the artistic portrayal of the views. The landscape and the territory are seen through history and current development.
The technique is in watercolor on fine 100% cotton paper.
According to everyone’s experience, the landscape is the interpretation that we give of a place; the landscape is therefore an expression of the perceptive and intellectual universe of those who experience it, contemplate it, portray it or study it.
The landscape, however, is not something static, but an entity in constant transformation where ecological and aesthetic aspects are an expression of the constant interaction between natural elements and human actions. We can say that the landscape is what it represents and, at the same time, how it is represented.
The desire of the client to collect, in a precious volume, places and memories of particular value and meaning is interpreted through a series of watercolor paintings and graphite drawings. Every detail of the book is taken care of with dedication, from the choice of paper to the binding, from the solutions for the cover to the development and verification of the best print quality.
